Tardive dyskinesia is a movement disorder. People with this disease suffer from uncontrollable, repetitive body movements. This typically includes jerky uncontrollable finger movements, writhing movements of the tongue, and other tic-like movements of the neck and arms. The most common cause of this disease is antipsychotic medication such as Risperdal and Invega.
Patients treated with atypical antipsychotics such as Risperdal and Invega are at a significantly elevated risk for tardive dyskinesia. These side effects are particularly severe in children and adolescents. One study showed that even short term treatment with these drugs led to high rates of dyskinetic movement.
If you or a loved one were diagnosed with tardive dyskinesia or another serious movement disorder after taking an atypical antipsychotic such as Risperdal or Invega, you may have a claim for damages. Contact the Dysart Law Firm, P.C., for a free case evaluation.
